Nurturing Faith in Every Generation

Mar Thoma Cheriapally oversees Sunday Schools at Karukadam, Kothamangalam, Thangalam, Ramalloor, and Venduvazhi. Together they teach Scripture, prayer, church history, and the living traditions of the Syriac Orthodox faith.

Through weekly classes, Vacation Bible School, rallies, and festival participation — especially the Kanni 20 Perunnal — children grow as active members of the parish family, carrying forward the devotion of St. Yeldo Mar Baselios and the apostolic heritage of Cheriapally.

Karukadam Est. 1920

St. Thomas Sunday School, Karukadam

Following the direction of Nedumthallil Skaria Kathanaar, St. Thomas Sunday School began in 1920 at Vettiyankunnil Kochappan’s house. It later moved to Palappilly in 1949, and in 1961 a new building was raised on land received from the church. Christmas Carol services and the Gospel Convention (Suvishēsha Mahayogam) of 1966 also began here. From 1949 to 2002, Paulose Ashan of Pazhukkattu served as Headmaster.

Kothamangalam Est. 1952

Mar Basil Sunday School, Kothamangalam

Inaugurated in January 1952 by Rev. Nedumthalli Geevarghese Kathanaar, with C.P. Varghese of Chelattu as the first Headmaster, Mar Basil Sunday School is the principal centre under Cheriapally. It has conducted Vacation Bible School with the largest student participation in Malankara and organised the first Sunday School children’s rally in Kothamangalam. The school has also earned recognition at the All Malankara Balakala Utsavam and secured first rank in the Plus Two examination in 2022.

Thangalam Est. 1958

St. Thomas Sunday School, Thangalam

Continuously active for more than sixty-six years, with earlier roots at the home of Thoma Cheriya in Kunnamppally. Early founders including Sri. Poovath, Sri. Cheriyan, and Sri. Kochupuravath shaped its beginnings, and Sri. Paily Chacko donated land at Kuttappala for a shed where classes continued. A church building begun in 1969 was consecrated in 1970, and the newer facility now in use was completed in 2002.

Ramalloor Est. 1966

Mar Basil Sunday School, Ramalloor

Begun in 1966 at Karanaver house, Valiyaparambu, Puravath, the Sunday School later moved when a family at Embassery donated land and a building was constructed. As the community grew, land was purchased at Ramalloor Library Steps, a new building was raised, and the school was consecrated on 6 March 2011 by Mor Abraham Mar Severios, Metropolitan. Classes continue on the first and third Sundays of each month, with the annual feast observed on 27–28 December.

Venduvazhi Est. 1986

Yeldo Mar Baselios Sunday School, Venduvazhi

Established to serve the faithful of the Venduvazhi area on land donated by M.M. George. The school began on 16 February 1986 after consecration by the then Vicar, Rev. P.M. Kuriakose Pukkunnel, under the leadership of Paulose Saar. Dedicated to St. Yeldo Mar Baselios, it continues weekly formation in Scripture, prayer, and the traditions of the Syriac Orthodox Church.
